Richard Coxon

Richard Coxon is one of Britain's most exciting and versatile Opera singers of his generation.

Richard was born in Nottingham. At the age of 19 he Studied at the at the Royal Northern College of Music and made his professional operatic debut with Scottish Opera singing Flavio in Norma, subsequently spending three years with the Company as Principal Tenor under Sir Richard Armstrong where his roles included Nemorino L'elisir d'amore, Don Ottavio Don Giovanni and Alfredo La Traviata.

He frequently performs at the ROH, Glyndebourne Festival and ENO. Richard was the original Bill in Jonathon Dove's flight at Glyndeborne festival Opera, which was recorded for channel 4 and released on CD the following year.

Amongst many international engagements Richard has sung with Opera Zuid, Maastricht, Nationale Reisopera, Spoleto Festival, Italy and New Israeli Opera where he performed the title role in The Rake's Progress. Richard has sung Flute in A Midsummer Nights Dream at the La Monnaie Brussels, and made his American and Canadian debuts in 2004 with Opéra de Montréal and Florida Grand Opera singing Kudrjàs in Katya Kabanova and later returned to sing Monostatos in Magic Flute. Richard is a regular artist on Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night. Film credits include Sam in Lucia, by Don Boyd; Dashwood Fox on the DVD of The Cunning Little Vixen under Kent Nagano.

For Channel 4 he sang The Vain Man in The Little Prince directed by Francesca Zambello, which is also available on CD and DVD Sony Classical. He has recorded a number CDs for Chandos, working extensively with Richard Hickox. He released his debut solo Album Quanto Amore in 2005,which included a number of songs written and produced by himself. His second Album My Passion is a collaboration with the number 1 classical guitarist Craig Ogden, which includes a selection of Neopolitan songs and classical arias. For the last number years he has also been a regular guest artist for the Summer Proms concerts.

Recently For Opera North, Richard has sung the roles of the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier, and The Worker La Vida Breve, for which he received outstanding reviews. For English National Opera he has performed many roles including was The Painter in Berg's Lulu, Nick in Handmaid's Tale, Fenton in Falstaff and Peter Simple in Sir John in Love. He also performed in the World Premiere of The King by Stephen Barlow at Canterbury Cathedral. Many other roles performed with the major opera companies include Rodolfo La Boheme, Duke in Rigoletto, Nick Fanciulla del West and Pang in Turandot. His warm stage prescence, versatility and down to earth personality and have earned him a fine international reputation.
